At the Conference on Contemporary Poetry (or should that be a conference on contemporary poetry), featuring an invited range of mostly little-known poets in English, in 2002 at Cambridge, I was approached by a stranger interested in my work. I still have not yet met him again as I don’t think he does venture much in the North or I should surely have done so. This was, is, Tony Frazer, and within a few years at his insistence he had produced the then only fair-sized compendium of my work on restricted subjects, the martens and otters.
A remarkable and adventurous publisher, Tony has gone on to publish hundreds of my verses in four further books, with, his committal, more yet to come of the rather long list of ‘works in progress’. His enthusiasm, care, production skills and generosity are the qualities I think of first. As I don’t know him otherwise, I salute this editor and publisher as a substantive boon to poetry-publishing in English in the truly modern era. Look at his ‘list’ and wonder! So noble and consistent a force must be adequately saluted. I do so spiritedly.
Thank you, Tony; all the best for the future in your fine foundation. You deserve much more acclaim for what you achieve and promise.
