Phone Call
for Tony Frazer, after Jean Cocteau’s La voix humaine
the curtain gives the look
to free space
– how freely breathes
this know-sphere of murder
on the floor in front of the bed
lying like a woman
in a long nightshirt
stillness
the woman rises again
& changes
her hopeful posture covered with hair
motionless at last she grips
the opening
lifts herself
grabs a coat
goes to the door on the bed
she is in front of the telephone
a short standing here
her other is in the off
she longs at the door
the telephone keeps ringing
this is hunger
she leaves the coat falling
& plunges onto the apparatus
her mack disables her
with a kick
she pushes him aside
she loses weight
from this moment on she speaks time
in time standing time sitting
time turning back to the listener
her profile kneeling behind the arm chair
head cut-off on the rest
laid again she goes
in the room
up and away
training the wire behind her
until she in the end
with that face down
(a flat stomach)
on the bed sinks her head
hangs off
and the listener falls
like a stone
she rises
& changes again
her longing covered with hair
her speaking time
– waving
grabbing a coat
blowing a kiss to the listener
stillness
hunger is murder
