CITY
after Angel Gonzalez
The city is shiny like a toy.
Skyscrapers conquer trees.
Streets are diamond hard.
And then you, amid the jumble of cables.
The sun is my necklace,
I see your image inside it.
When glass hides spies in plain sight
Facades are futile.
My eyes are too full.
And then you, somewhere far away.
I didn’t get to say goodbye.
Nothing is left of your presence.
The city polishes its surfaces,
It has no use for us.
